Dubai has more five-star hotels than anywhere else on earth, but two stand above the rest in iconic status: the Burj Al Arab and One&Only The Palm. Both will cost you €1,000+ per night — but they offer completely different experiences.
Burj Al Arab Jumeirah: The Icon
💡 Airport transfer: Welcome Pickups locks in a fixed price with local drivers who meet you at arrivals — ideal for first-time visitors.
What it is: The world’s most famous luxury hotel — the sail-shaped building on its own artificial island is Dubai’s skyline anchor. Opened 1999, still the benchmark.
Price: AED 4,000-12,000/night (€1,000-3,000) for a one-bedroom suite
What makes it special:
- The gold: Everything is gold-leafed or gold-plated. The atrium is 180 meters high — taller than the Eiffel Tower. The scale is genuinely incomprehensible until you’re standing inside.
- Butler service: Every guest has a personal butler. They’ll unpack your bags, draw your bath, arrange reservations, and meet you at the airport.
- Private beach access: 5-star Scine Beach Club exclusively for Burj guests, directly on Jumeirah Beach
- Restaurants: Al Mahara (seafood, 3 Michelin stars equivalent) and Nathan Outlaw (fish and chips done impossibly well)
What’s not great:
- The building is 25 years old — the original rooms show their age compared to newer competitors
- Located on a busy artificial island — no sense of real Dubai
- The “all-suite” concept means you’re in a suite but not necessarily a huge room
- Extremely touristy — you’ll see more day-trippers than hotel guests
One&Only The Palm: The Private Paradise
What it is: A boutique resort on the Palm Jumeirah’s “trunk” — the quieter, more exclusive part of the Palm — with direct beachfront and a spa that regularly ranks in global top 10.
Price: AED 3,500-10,000/night (€900-2,600) for a villa or suite
What makes it special:
- True privacy: Only 90 keys (rooms/villas), genuine exclusive atmosphere. No day-trippers, no crowds — this feels like a resort in the Maldives
- Beach: 1km of private beach, some of the clearest water in Dubai
- Guerlain Spa: The only Guerlain Spa in the Middle East — 25 treatment rooms, couples suite, post-treatment relaxation is a full experience
- Zero 0 by chef Yannick: One&Only’s flagship restaurant, 3 Michelin stars — a tasting menu experience that’s worth flying to Dubai just to eat
- Villa option: The beachfront villas have private plunge pools, outdoor showers, and direct beach access — the pinnacle of Dubai luxury
What’s not great:
- Far from downtown Dubai (30-40 min to Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall) — this is a destination resort, not a city hotel
- No kids’ club (One&Only is primarily adult-focused, some villas accommodate children)
- Booking at peak season (Dec-Feb) requires 3-6 months advance

Booking Advice
Burj Al Arab: Book directly through Jumeirah.com for complimentary airport transfers and room upgrades (varies by rate). The cheapest “garden view” rooms still give you access to everything — it’s the experience that matters.
One&Only: Best rates are often via Virtuoso or Amex Fine Hotels — these also include breakfast, resort credit (€100-200), and room upgrades.
For attractions and dining in Dubai, Tiqets covers Burj Khalifa observation deck, Dubai Frame, and desert safari experiences.
