Waldorf Astoria Shanghai on the Bund 2026: Room and Booking Guide

Verdict first

Choose Waldorf Astoria Shanghai on the Bund for its No. 2 Bund location, restored Shanghai Club heritage and Long Bar, not because a generic “high floor” guarantees a postcard view. The best room depends on the exact room name and confirmed view; the hotel sells city-view, river-view, panorama and Heritage options, and those terms should be written into the reservation.

Who should book it?

What is historically verified?

Hilton identifies the hotel as the first Waldorf Astoria to open in Asia. Its Heritage Building was constructed in 1911 and once housed the Shanghai Club; the current hotel opened in 2010 after restoration using archival photographs and records. The address is No. 2 Zhong Shan Dong Yi Road in Huangpu District. See the official hotel overview.

The Long Bar is historically important, but the current bar should not be described as an untouched original counter. Hilton says the original 34-metre design was resurrected, with elements reproduced from photographic records. See the official dining page. Room choice: use the room name, not an invented floor rule

The official inventory currently lists 260 rooms and suites and includes King and Double Queen Deluxe rooms, city-view rooms, river-view rooms, Premium Panorama River View rooms, Noble Suites, Bund Heritage Suites and other suites. Hilton highlights panoramic city views, marble bathrooms, fine linens and access to the Library Lounge, while capacity and specific features differ by room. If the view is the priority

Book a room whose official name explicitly says River View or Premium Panorama River View. Add a request for a preferred orientation, but treat it as a request unless the booked category guarantees it. “Above floor 30” is not a saleable guarantee and was removed from this guide.

If heritage is the priority

Choose a room or suite explicitly carrying a Heritage designation. Ask whether the assigned accommodation is in the Heritage Building and what the actual outlook is. Do not assume every heritage room overlooks a courtyard or every modern room has a balcony.

If two beds or three occupants matter

Use the official capacity shown for the exact room and confirm bedding in writing. A “sleeps three” label may involve existing bedding or a rollaway subject to hotel rules and charges.

If accessibility or connecting rooms matter

The hotel lists connecting rooms and accessible amenities, but availability is limited. Contact the hotel before the cancellation deadline and retain confirmation.

Dining: what actually operates now

Hilton’s current dining page lists:

• Wai King Kok for refined Chinese cuisine;
• Grand Brasserie for European and Chinese dishes and hotel breakfast;
• Ling Long for a reservation-led modern Chinese dinner experience;
• Peacock Alley and Salon de Ville for lounge and afternoon-tea service;
• Long Bar for cocktails in the restored historic setting;
• Pink Oyster, an eight-seat oyster omakase inside Long Bar.

The former article listed restaurants, reopening dates, menu prices and cocktails that were stale or unsupported. Menus, hours and minimum spend can change; use the hotel’s live dining page and contact the venue for a date-specific reservation.

The property-specific Library Lounge

It is incorrect to say this hotel has no lounge. The hotel’s amenities page currently describes a Library Lounge on the third floor. It says access is available to Hilton Diamond members, American Express Centurion cardholders, suite guests and designated hotel VIPs, with personalized check-in/out, a daytime light snack and an evening wine happy hour for up to two registered guests. The hotel also publishes a charge for additional guests.

This is property-specific information, not a promise that every Waldorf Astoria has the same arrangement. Confirm the access rules shortly before arrival, especially when the lounge affects which rate you choose.

Hilton Honors: what is and is not guaranteed in 2026

For a qualifying stay, Hilton Honors Gold and Diamond members can receive a continental-breakfast or food-and-beverage benefit outside the United States depending on brand and region, plus space-available upgrades. The previous article incorrectly promised Diamond members a guaranteed 2 p.m. checkout. In 2026:

• ordinary Member through Diamond late checkout remains subject to availability;
• the new Diamond Reserve tier has guaranteed 4 p.m. late checkout on eligible stays;
• upgrades for Gold and Diamond are space-available, not guaranteed river views;
• lounge access only has value if an eligible lounge and access arrangement apply to the reservation.

Ask the hotel before arrival which venue delivers the breakfast/MyWay benefit and whether the booked room includes Library Lounge access. Do not infer a universal “Waldorf has no lounge” rule or substitute an afternoon-tea promise.

How to compare the rate

Live rates can move by date, occupancy, event demand and cancellation policy. The old ¥2,500–¥4,500 tables and fixed restaurant prices had no reproducible checkout evidence.

Compare:

1. exact room and view wording;
2. number of guests and breakfast coverage;
3. tax and service charges at final checkout;
4. deposit and cancellation deadline;
5. Hilton points, elite credit and benefits only if the rate is eligible;
6. any written adviser benefits or hotel credit;
7. payment currency and card fee.

Direct, OTA or travel adviser?

• Hilton direct: strongest when a qualifying Honors stay and elite benefits matter.
• OTA: useful if the identical room and cancellation terms produce a lower final total.
• Luxury travel adviser: useful for high-value, multi-room or celebration stays when written benefits and escalation matter.

Ask a luxury hotel adviser to quote the exact room, dates, occupancy and public comparison rate. The adviser quote still needs like-for-like validation.

Location and transport decision

The hotel is on the historic Bund in Huangpu. That favors walking access to the riverfront and central historic districts, but road congestion, pedestrian access and attraction opening arrangements vary. Use live mapping for the actual day instead of old fixed walking-time claims.

For airport or railway-station transfers, compare arrival time, luggage and number of passengers. A metro route may be efficient for light luggage; a pre-arranged car can be more resilient after a late long-haul arrival.

• Exact room name includes the desired city, river, panorama or Heritage wording.
• Bed type and maximum occupancy are confirmed.
• Breakfast coverage states the number of guests.

Does the hotel allow pets?

The current official amenities page says pets are not allowed, correcting the old “under 15 kg with a fee” claim.

Is this the same as Waldorf Astoria Shanghai Qiantan?
