From Fiumicino (FCO) to anywhere inside Rome's Aurelian Walls, a taxi costs a fixed EUR 55.00 per car, not per person, in either direction, including supplements (except from the fifth passenger onwards) and any motorway tolls (Roma Capitale tariff of June 2026). The non-stop Leonardo Express to Roma Termini takes 32 minutes and costs EUR 14 per person. For two people, that is EUR 55.00 by taxi against EUR 28 by train. Buses to Termini cost from EUR 4.00 (Terravision) to EUR 8.00 (Rome Airport Bus online fare) per person one way, and Cotral's night-service "Air Terminal" ticket is EUR 5.00 in the app. The FL1 regional train costs EUR 8.00 inside the "Zona Anello" fare zone.

Taxi from Fiumicino: the fixed fare and what it covers
Fare. The Roma Capitale tariff of June 2026 (Capitoline resolution no. 157 of 21 May 2026) sets EUR 55.00 for a trip between FCO and the area inside the Aurelian Walls, in either direction. The Roma Servizi per la Mobilità taxi page (updated 14 July 2026) gives the same fare as EUR 55.00 per car, with about 40 to 50 minutes of travel time, and says taxis for Rome wait at the exit of the terminals (arrivals).
What it includes. Fixed fares include all supplements except the one from the fifth passenger onwards, and any motorway tolls, so no luggage charge is added. They apply only to a direct route from the pick-up point to the address, with no detour, stop or other pick-ups.
Where the Walls are. The tariff describes the Aurelian Walls area as a list of boundary streets, shows it on a map, and cites Rome City Council Resolution no. 493 of 6 September 2006. Check the street list and the map before you assume your hotel is "inside the Walls".

The EUR 50.00 applies only to the route between FCO and Ostiense Station. The fare for the area inside the Walls is EUR 55.00.
Outside the Walls and not on the tariff's fixed-fare list, the meter runs. From FCO the tariff sets a minimum fare of EUR 35.00 per ride; it does not apply to journeys to offices, airport facilities and hotels inside the airport grounds. A ride that starts inside the Grande Raccordo Anulare (the ring road, G.R.A.) and ends at FCO, or the reverse, cannot exceed EUR 80.00. On metered rides the first piece of luggage is free, and each further piece larger than 35 x 25 x 50 cm costs EUR 1.00.
Spotting an official taxi. Rome taxis are white, with a "TAXI" sign on the roof and the city emblem and licence number on the front doors; the licence number is also inside the car on the rear left door (Roma Servizi per la Mobilità). Before you leave, check that the meter is on (for metered rides) and ask for a receipt; drivers must issue one on request.
Ciampino. The tariff sets a fixed EUR 40.00 from Ciampino airport to inside the Walls, and the Roma Servizi per la Mobilità page adds that it is per car and takes about 30 minutes. Ciampino to Tiburtina Station and to Ostiense Station is also EUR 40.00. Outside the fixed-fare areas, the minimum fare from Ciampino is EUR 25.00.
Leonardo Express: price, time and first and last trains
The Leonardo Express is Trenitalia's non-stop train between Fiumicino Aeroporto and Roma Termini. It takes 32 minutes, a single ticket costs EUR 14.00, and the train departs from platforms 23 and 24 at Roma Termini.
Frequency. Trenitalia's timetable leaflet (Summer Edition, valid 14 June to 12 December 2026) says one train every 15 minutes in the busier time slots and one every 30 minutes at other times, every day of the year.
First and last trains. The leaflet's note says the first train from Roma Termini leaves at 04:50 and the last train from the airport leaves at 23:53. Its timetable lists airport departures from 05:38 and one more at 00:23. The footnotes say some departures are suspended on certain weekdays and dates, for example Tuesdays and Wednesdays until 18 November and, in one footnote, Wednesdays and Thursdays until 19 November. The leaflet says its data are from 20 June 2026 and may change. Do not treat 00:23 as a general last train.
Children and luggage. Children under 4 travel free, and so does one child aged 4 to under 12 per paying adult. The fare table applies the same rule to the regional airport trains. Luggage, including large luggage, has no surcharge, and the leaflet says there is no limit of weight or size.
Not accepted. Integrated Metrebus tickets are not valid on the Leonardo Express. Per the fare table, Eurail Pass and FS Italiane credentials are accepted in first class but not in second class.
Regional tickets. A single regional ticket (EUR 8.00 or EUR 11.00) does not cover the Leonardo Express. With the EUR 8.00 ticket, tell the train staff before boarding and pay the EUR 6.00 difference. Without telling them, you pay an EUR 8.00 surcharge plus the difference (EUR 6.00, or EUR 3.00 for the EUR 11.00 ticket).
Buying and validating a train ticket
The leaflet lists these places to buy a Leonardo Express ticket: trenitalia.com and the Trenitalia app; ticket offices and self-service machines; the turnstiles, by contactless payment at the "Leonardo Gate" (tap and tap; American Express, Mastercard, Visa, Apple Pay, Samsung Pay and UnionPay are named); authorised travel agencies; and Mooney points and tobacconists. At the airport, Trenitalia's connections page says the ticket office is open 7 days a week from 6.45 a.m. to 10.12 p.m., and self-service machines are also there.
Rules from the fare table (valid from 28 October 2024):
- Buy the ticket from an authorised channel.
- Validate it before boarding. At Fiumicino Aeroporto station you validate at the turnstiles, which also check tickets on arrival.
- On the Leonardo Express, a paper single ticket is valid 90 minutes from validation. A digital ticket bought online is valid only for the train shown on it.
The leaflet adds: keep your ticket until you leave Roma Termini and for the turnstiles at Fiumicino. Online tickets can be changed in date and time until 23:59 the night before the trip. On the day of travel, the time can still be changed until the chosen train's scheduled departure. No changes are possible after automatic validation.
FL1 regional train from Fiumicino
Trenitalia's connections page says FL1 reaches Roma Tiburtina in 48 minutes, with departures every 15 minutes on working days and every 30 minutes on Sundays and public holidays. The page gives no full list of stops.
Fare (fare table valid from 28 October 2024). A single 2nd-class regional ticket between Fiumicino Aeroporto and any station inside the "Zona Anello" (including Parco Leonardo) costs EUR 8.00. From other Lazio stations outside the Zona Anello it costs EUR 11.00. The fare table says the stations and limits of the Zona Anello are set in a separate tariff (no. 14/RM), so look up the stop nearest your hotel on trenitalia.com and the fare that applies to it.
FL1 versus Leonardo Express. The Leonardo Express does not stop and costs EUR 14. FL1 is a regional train with stops and costs EUR 8.00 inside the Zona Anello. Unlike the Leonardo Express, the regional trains inside the Zona Anello admit integrated Metrebus tickets valid for the route (except BIRG and BTR tickets), per the fare table.
Buses from FCO to the city center
The Roma Servizi per la Mobilità page "Shuttle Stazione Termini – Aeroporti" (published 29 November 2024, updated 19 December 2024) lists the bus companies that connect Termini with Fiumicino: Cotral, Rome Airport Bus - Schiaffini, Sit Bus Shuttle, T.A.M. Bus and Terravision. It says tickets are sold online, at authorised points and on board, and gives contact details but no fares or timetables.
Cotral. The page says Cotral runs from Termini (as well as from the main Rome metro stations, Tiburtina, Cornelia, Magliana and Ostia) and stops at Fiumicino Terminal 1. For the Termini/Tiburtina to Fiumicino link, Cotral's service charter 2026 sets a fixed ticket of EUR 5.00 per single trip, either direction. Cotral's fare page calls it the "Air Terminal" ticket for night services from and to Termini and Tiburtina stations and Fiumicino Airport. You can buy it in the Cotral app for EUR 5, at Cotral ticket offices and authorised points, or on board for EUR 7.00. Metrebus tickets are not valid on this link.
Terravision. The Terravision page lists Fiumicino Airport to Termini at "from EUR 4.00" one way and EUR 8.00 return for adults; children aged 0 to 4 are free. The bus runs every 20 minutes, takes 40 to 50 minutes, and includes luggage in the ticket. The airport stop is platform 18.
Rome Airport Bus - Schiaffini. The Rome Airport Bus page lists online fares for Fiumicino to Termini of EUR 8.00 one way and EUR 12.00 return for adults, with free luggage. The trip takes about 50 minutes with no intermediate stops. The airport desk is at Terminal 3 arrivals, and the Termini stop is on Via Giovanni Giolitti, opposite the market. The timetable (updated 29 July 2026) lists departures from Termini between about 04:30 and 01:00 and from Fiumicino between 06:00 and 23:55.
Sit Bus Shuttle. The Sit page shows a Fiumicino Airport to Rome Vatican return ticket at EUR 13, with a EUR 2.00 extra charge for a ticket bought at the stop. The text on the page does not show a Fiumicino to Termini fare.

If you land late at night
- Leonardo Express: the leaflet's note gives 23:53 as the last train from the airport. The timetable also lists a 00:23 departure, but the footnotes say some departures are suspended on certain days.
- Rome Airport Bus: the last listed departure from Fiumicino is at 23:55.
- Cotral "Air Terminal" night services: EUR 5.00 per single trip. Cotral's fare page and service charter give no times, so check them on cotralspa.it, and your date's Leonardo Express times on trenitalia.com, before you fly.
- Taxi: taxis wait at the terminal exits (arrivals); the EUR 55.00 fixed fare inside the Walls includes supplements, except from the fifth passenger onwards.
Private hire compared with an official taxi
A taxi from the airport follows the city's published tariff, with fixed fares for some routes and the meter for the rest. Neither the Roma Capitale taxi tariff nor the Roma Servizi per la Mobilità taxi page gives a fare for a pre-booked car with driver (NCC), and this guide gives none. Ask the operator for the total price, including luggage and tolls, before you book.
