The cheapest direct way from Suvarnabhumi Airport to Khao San Road is the Route S1 bus. The airport's Bus BMTA page lists it as Suvarnabhumi Airport - Khao San - Sanam Luang, with an approximate fare of 60 THB, running 06:00 AM - 08:00 PM. It boards on Level 1, Gate 7 (inner curb) of the main terminal.

Outside those hours, take a taxi or Grab. Both run 24 hours at Suvarnabhumi. From Don Mueang Airport, the A4 bus goes toward Khao San and Sanam Luang for 50 baht.

The official pages publish no fixed taxi price to Khao San Road and no Airport Rail Link fare, so this guide gives no baht total for those two. It sticks to what the airport pages state.

The S1 bus: cheapest direct route to Khao San Road

S1 is the only route on the Suvarnabhumi pages that names Khao San Road. It ends at Sanam Luang.

  • Fare: the Bus BMTA page lists an approximate 60 THB and notes that fares may change with the provider's policy and the time period, so verify the fare when you board.
  • Hours: the Bus BMTA page gives 06:00 AM - 08:00 PM. The "Ways to transport" page gives 06:00-20:00. The two agree.
  • Where: Level 1, Gate 7 (inner curb), main terminal.
  • Travel time: the official pages give none, so plan without a fixed number.

The other BMTA routes on the Bus BMTA page, 554 and 558 (both approximately 35 THB), do not go to Khao San Road. Route 554 does serve Don Mueang; see the airport-to-airport section below.

Suvarnabhumi taxi: queue, surcharge, tolls

Here is how the airport's public taxi works, according to the airport's "Ways to transport" and Public Taxi pages.

  1. Go to Level 1 of the main terminal, between Gates 4 and 7 (inner curb). The taxi information counter and the automatic ticket machines are there. Taxis run 24 hours.
  2. Take a queue ticket. The airport requires it before you use the service. Waiting time depends on how many passengers there are.
  3. Ride on the meter. Fares start at THB 35 or THB 40, plus the metered fare at Department of Land Transport rates.
  4. Pay the THB 50 airport surcharge to the driver. This is an airport charge for taxis leaving the airport. The page does not call it a night surcharge.
  5. Pay any tolls yourself. The Public Taxi page says toll fees are paid by the passenger.
  6. Ask about baggage. Baggage fees may apply under Ministry of Transport rules. The page states no amount, so none is given here.

There are two kinds of taxi: regular-distance and short-distance. Short-distance taxis serve areas within about 20 km of the airport according to the airport's service map. The pages do not say which type serves Khao San Road, so ask at the taxi counter.

The Public Taxi page also carries a Department of Land Transport note. For longer hires in Bangkok-registered cars carrying up to seven passengers, the note allows agreed fares for journeys outside Bangkok in Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, Samut Prakan, Chachoengsao, Samut Sakhon and Nakhon Pathom, including journeys continuing into other provinces. The page publishes no agreed price and no per-kilometre rate. There is no official fixed price from Suvarnabhumi to Khao San Road.

Taxi information counter: +66 2 132 0360.

Premium options listed by the airport:

  • EV Society Taxi VIP (Level 1, Gates 4 and 7, middle curb, 24 hours): starting fare THB 150 plus the meter.
  • CABBY Electric VIP Taxi (Level 1, Gate 3, middle curb, 24 hours): starting fare THB 150 plus the meter, plus a THB 100 service charge paid to the driver.
  • AOT Limousine: starting rates from THB 550 (Eco Sedan, AION, up to 3 passengers) to THB 1,300 (Luxury Sedan, up to 3 passengers). Walk-in at the Level 2 counter only.

The Airport Rail Link station is on Level B1 of the main terminal, and the "Ways to transport" page lists operating hours of 05:30-24:00. Its call centre is +66 2 091 1595.

That is all the airport's pages say. They give no fare, no journey time and no route on to Khao San Road. Check the fare at the station or with the operator before you count on the train being cheaper than the bus.

Grab at Suvarnabhumi: where you get picked up

The airport describes Grab as a legally licensed ride-hailing service. Its Grab pick-up page says the Grab taxis are certified by the Department of Land Transport, and that the service covers three types: Grab Taxi, Grab Car and JustGrab.

  • Pick-up point: Passenger Terminal, Level 1, Gate 4 (outer curb). Open 24 hours.
  • Rule: you can request a ride from any area inside the airport, but you must use the designated pick-up and drop-off points at Gate 4.
  • Phone: +66 2 021 2530.
  • Price: the airport pages publish none.

Gate 4 is also where the public taxi zone begins. The taxis wait on the inner curb between Gates 4 and 7, and Grab uses the outer curb at Gate 4.

Don Mueang Airport to Khao San Road and the city centre

Don Mueang Airport's BMTA page lists bus routes A1 to A4 with these destinations and fares:

Route Destination Fare
A1 Mo Chit 2 (the airport home page adds BTS Chatuchak Station on the way) 30 baht
A2 Victory Monument (via BTS Chatuchak Station, per the home page) 30 baht
A3 Lumpini Park (via Pratunam and Ratchaprasong, per the home page) 50 baht
A4 Sanam Luang (via Democracy Monument and Khaosan, per the home page) 50 baht

For Khao San Road, take A4. The airport's home page ("How to get to Don Mueang Airport") describes it as Don Mueang Airport - Democracy Monument - Khaosan - Sanam Luang Road, 50 baht for the whole line.

  • Where to board: the International Terminal, Building 1, Floor 1, Gate 6, or the Domestic Terminal, according to the home page.
  • Counter: International Passenger Terminal, Building 1, Floor 1, Gate 6. Pick-up is in front of the Service Hall building and in front of Gate 6.
  • Hours: the two pages differ. The BMTA page lists A4 at 06.00-23.00, departing every 30 minutes; the home page lists 07.00-22.40. Plan on the narrower window and ask at the BMTA counter (phone 088-907-8066).

The Don Mueang pages give no official taxi fare or train fare, so this guide gives none.

Late at night or very early in the morning

Only the following options have hours the Suvarnabhumi pages state.

Time What is listed
After 20:00 S1 to Khao San has stopped (06:00-20:00). Use a taxi or Grab, both 24 hours
After 24:00 The Airport Rail Link (05:30-24:00) has stopped. Route S6 (555) to Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal (05:30-24:00) has also stopped, and it does not go to Khao San anyway
Any hour Public taxi, Grab, EV Society Taxi VIP, CABBY and AOT Limousine are all listed as 24-hour services
Before 05:30 Rail and S6 have not started, and S1 starts at 06:00. Use a taxi or Grab

The airport pages do not list any 24-hour public bus, so do not plan around one. For Don Mueang, the last A4 time listed is 23.00 on the BMTA page and 22.40 on the home page; the pages list no bus to Khao San after that.
